Katrina Martin was presented with the John Muir Trust Conserver Award in recognition of her work.

A photographer who spent more than a year putting Cumbernauld’s environment in the spotlight has received a top award for her efforts.

Katrina Martin, who was taking part in the 2020Vision campaign, was presented with the John Muir Conserver Award for her work in highlighting the town’s environment.

Cumbernauld’s Young Champion achieves top Conserver Award

Press release about receiving my John Muir Conserver Award:

2020VISION Young Champion Katrina Martin was presented with the John Muir Conserver Award at the annual John Muir Trust members’ weekend, Loch Lomond, Scotland.

2020VISION is Britain’s most ambitious photography-based conservation initiative ever. It aims to reconnect wild places with each other, and reconnect us with wild places. To help communicate the message that healthy ecosystems mean healthy people, a number of young adults were recruited to work alongside professional photographers and act as ‘Young Champions’ for the initiative.

Reflections of a Young Champion

With the photograph-taking period of 2020VISION coming to an end, it gives me an ideal opportunity to reflect on the past sixteen months during my role as Young Champion. Being fortunate to grow up out in a remote countryside village, I really jumped at the opportunity to communicate to others how amazing the natural world is when we get up close and personal with it. And using photography – a medium I love – made the whole experience that much more exciting.

Cathkin Primary School are the proud new owners of a unique outdoor classroom thanks to the Scottish Wildlife Trust.

Teacher Martin Frame approached Katrina Martin of the trust to help the local school realise their ambition to get the kids closer to nature.

Rutherglen school will be learning with nature all around them

Article about a local primary school that I have been involved in helping get materials for to enable them to create an outdoor classroom.

PUPILS at Cathkin Primary School will soon be experiencing the great outdoors during class time after being inspired by one of Scotland’s best-known historical figures.

The school are constructing an outdoor classroom with the help of the Scottish Wildlife Trust and a £825 grant from Awards for All.

Scottish Natural Heritage’s “Simple pleasures, easily found” campaign aims to inspire local people to make more use of green places in the heart of Cumbernauld, taking in woodland, parks, waterways and paths.
